Practice

Practice gives belief a human shape.

The Continuance is lived in silence, reading, lament, gratitude, song, shared meals, remembrance, prayer, celebration, care and service.

Lived rather than displayed

Practice belongs to ordinary life.

Practices exist to enlarge or steady life when life needs enlarging or steadying. They are not tests of purity and not performances for other people.

A morning reading, a shared meal, the naming of the dead, a walk in silence, a moment of gratitude, an act of repair. Small things can carry real weight when they are honestly lived.

Five simple movements

1

Pause

Create enough stillness to notice your own mind and the life around you.

2

Attend

Give honest attention to truth, relationship, memory, the body and consequence.

3

Remember

Hold people, losses, promises and gratitude in forms that do not let them vanish unnoticed.

4

Act

Turn conviction outward through care, service, protection, repair and contribution.

Prayer without pretence

Prayer may address Greater Consciousness, Mystery, a dead loved one, or no clearly named recipient. No mechanism is guaranteed.

Shared meals

Eating together is one of the simplest ways to make belonging tangible. Hospitality is a spiritual practice because people are real.

Remembrance

The dead need not become abstractions. Names, stories, objects and acts of care can keep relationship present without making false claims.

Begin simply.

You do not need to master everything. Start with one or two practices and let them become part of the shape of your days.
